Akae-saibyo 赤絵細描

赤 red · 絵 painting · 細 fine/detailed · 描 depiction

Akae-saibyo (fine red painting) is a Kutani technique perfected at the Miyamotoya kiln in the Iidaya style, in which figures and patterns are drawn in extremely fine red lines, often accented with gold. It is regarded as the origin of Kutani akae (Kutani red painting).

Artists create microscopic patterns of thousands of red dots and lines on the porcelain surface. The technique produces vibrant and delicate paintings with eye-catching, detailed beauty.
