A Refreshing Summer Kappo Dining Experience with Celadon

A Refreshing Summer Kappo Dining Experience with Celadon

Written by Team MUSUBI

As the summer heat intensifies, creating a cool and refreshing dining atmosphere becomes essential. Enter the world of celadon, a timeless and serene shade that gracefully shifts from white to light green. When paired with the meticulously prepared kappo cuisine, celadon brings a breath of fresh air to your dining table. Explore how to incorporate refreshing elements into your summer dining experience, making it a haven of relaxation and culinary delight.

Fresh Kappo Cuisine

The term "kappo" is said to have originated in the Edo period (1603 CE–1868 CE), and it literally means "to cut and cook," referring to a style of cooking. Since chefs typically use very fresh ingredients to prepare the dishes on the counter, the term has gradually come to imply fine dining. Our table setting includes some of the representative dishes of kappo cuisine, the otoshi “appetizer,” the agemono “fried dishes,” sushi, and desserts. This is also considered one of the authentic expressions of traditional Japanese culinary culture.

The subtle hue of celadon and the bamboo placemat perfectly complement kappo cuisine. Adding the tin sake carafe and guinomi sake cup from Seigado enhances the traditional ambiance of the table setting.
The agemono, featuring crispy vegetables and shrimp paired with refreshing matcha salt, is a true appetite stimulant. The round celadon plate from Kaizan Kiln, with its soothing color, highlights the crunchy golden crust, making it stand out on the table.

Matsukan's Octagonal Shiratake Kyoto Bamboo Wakasa Lacquerware Chopsticks showcase the natural texture of bamboo under a transparent lacquer, perfect for summer dining.
Another eye-catching element is the dessert presented in a Hexagonal Suruga Bamboo Basketry Basket. The jelly dessert placed in a footed kobachi bowl from Kaizan Kiln looks even more translucent and enticing. Paired with matcha-flavored sweets, it adds a refreshing visual appeal to the overall table setting.

Beauty from Kaizan Kiln

An array of fresh sushi served on  a silver gourd-shaped plate from Kaizan Kiln with engraved ajiro patterns, looks even more delectable as the silver surface reflects light. In Japanese culture, the gourd shape symbolizes prosperity, adding an extra layer of meaning to this elegant presentation.
The celadon karakusa rectangle plate is the perfect size for serving a variety of appetizers. This time, we've chosen to use it for presenting four different types of tsukemono “pickles”. The plate is adorned with embossed karakusa patterns, which feature vines extending in all directions, symbolizing prosperity and longevity.

If you want to experience the charm of traditional Japanese dining culture, trying kappo cuisine is a wonderful choice. Spend this hot summer in a refreshing atmosphere created by the celadon and auspicious hisago plates from Kaizan Kiln.
